The Kitchen was the Salon growing up
You might’ve been waking up early for church on a Sunday morning,
or getting ready to run outside on a summer day. That hair was going to be laid
The smell of food cooking an burning hair filled the house.
Music was playing.
The TV was on at the same time.
And in the middle of all that noise and movement,
someone was working through your hair.

The stove was on.
The hot comb heating over the flame.

A jar of grease within reach
